HANOVER, MD, January 21, 2009 – The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®) today announced its 2009 Board of Directors, which took office at the beginning of the year. Don N. Kleinmuntz is the 2009 President of INFORMS.
Dr. Kleinmuntz is Executive Vice President and founding partner at Strata Decision Technology LLC. The company, with headquarters in Champaign, IL, and an office in Chicago, develops software for budgeting, financial decision making, and resource allocation, with a particular focus on U.S. hospitals and healthcare organizations. The company’s systems are in use at over 1,400 healthcare related businesses, including leading medical centers and multi-hospital health systems, comprising approximately 20% of U.S. hospitals. He is also Research Professor at the University of Southern California, where he is affiliated with the Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events.
Dr. Kleinmuntz is a nationally recognized expert in decision and risk analysis, with many years of consulting, research, and teaching experience on the use of advanced analytics to improve decision making in financial and strategic management settings. He has consulted on decision processes and decision analysis financial applications with a wide variety of corporations, professional service firms, hospitals, healthcare systems, and government agencies at both the federal and state level.
He was cofounding Editor-in-Chief of the INFORMS journal Decision Analysis, and previously served as INFORMS Treasurer. He was named an INFORMS Fellow in 2007.
Dr. Kleinmuntz has held faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Texas at Austin.
He is a graduate of the University of Chicago, where he received a BA in statistics, MBA, and Ph.D. in business administration.
